Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Loan Officer-Financial Aid is responsible for
providing advice and guidance to students, prospective students, parents, staff and the community on student loans and aid procedures, budget development, debt management and the effective use of student financial resources available for education.
Responsibilities:
- Work cohesively with Admissions Coordinators to facilitate outstanding service to prospective students and their parents.
- Review applications for scholarships and/or financial aid;
- perform analysis of financial situations and needs;
- determine appropriate "packaging" of financial aid; and
- make award or denial of funds to students.
- Assist students/parents with the completion of the FAFSA and review the resulting ISIR.
- Create and explain payment options and the students and parents rights and responsibilities for each aid source.
- Responsible for completing and ensuring accurate files and paperwork.
- Package applications and complete Basic Verification/QA and C Code Requirements.
- Ensure that aid is paid to student's accounts in a timely manner.
- Ensures that the automated financial aid information system and student employment management systems are used efficiently and effectively and serves as liaison between office personnel and software vendors, other service providers, and other offices within Austin Career Institute.
- Contributes to student satisfaction through delivery of quality customer service in all aspects of the administration of financial aid and student employment services.
- Ensures that students and parents are well informed about the availability of financial aid by directing a program of public information which includes written materials, personal interviews, and workshops.
- Assist students and their parents with filing for Financial Aid and help these individuals with processing and obtaining Financial Aid within the guidelines of DOE.
- Adheres to COE, DOE, TVC, and TWC rules as communicated by the Campus President related to dealings with these regulatory bodies and reports any concerns or possible violations of those guidelines to the immediate supervisor.
- Helps to ensure that operations funds are spent properly by preparing and administering the budgets for Financial Aid, Scholarships and the various scholarship accounts, and other sources.
- Be available to step-in to conduct student financial aid orientation and exit financial aid orientation as needed.
- Must ensure that the students are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
- Must have good judgment skills, be approachable with good communication skills, be proactive and confident.
- Must be passionate to change lives, have good math skills, be comfortable working independently and ready to continuously work with teams to help students succeed.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Must have at least one year’s experience working in a college, university, or vocational career higher
education institution as a Financial Aid Administrator with experience in all aspects of college student
financial aid administration is required. Experience with NSLDS, COD, FSA Partner Portal, Student Loan
Repayment Financial Literacy, student information systems and financial aid management system is
required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field such as Business, Communications, Public Administration, or Guidance and Counseling is highly desired. Years of experience may substitute for higher education.
- Experience with VA Education benefits is helpful. Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
